Challenge

In order to meet future challenges in the production of biological products, and as part of the development of a new technology for manufacturing biological APIs, Virbac wishes to industrialize a new process on their historic site.
After studying different scenarii, the installation of a new area within an existing building was chosen as the most suitable option in order to meet future biological development challenges but also production capacity challenges of GMP of biological APIs.

Mission

Feasibility study allowed to evaluate several possible scenarii for setting up this new production area, taking into account the site’s flow constraints, future projects, interfaces with support activities and technical constraints.
Together with the client, process sizing at an industrial scale was carried out and made it possible to define the needs of the new area (surfaces, needs for clean and black utilities, air treatment). Economic evaluation was carried out between a modular and a revamping solution allowing to identify the best scenario.
After selecting the optimum scenario, an Advanced Basic Design was carried out by ILS in order to consolidate and specify technical aspects, thus making it possible to prepare a tender package to be submitted to general contractor for the realization of this new area.
ILS then accompanied the client in the follow-up of General Contractor Detailed Design and execution as well as construction site follow-up.
